Dimensions Surgery Center:
Colonoscopy and Upper Endoscopy

Colonoscopy:
A colonoscopy is a medical procedure which allows your physician - usually a gastroenterologist - to look inside the colon to evaluate and treat conditions of the large bowel. A thin, flexible tube is inserted rectally, at the end of which is a tiny video camera and light. The images are displayed on a TV monitor for your doctor to view. During a colonoscopy, you will be kept comfortable with light sedation and medication. Your doctor will be able to remove tissue for biopsy, inspect and analyze the entire large intestine, and determine what, if any, treatment is needed. Colonoscopies are performed regularly at Dimensions Surgery Center.

Upper Endoscopy or EGD (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy)
Upper Endoscopy is the term used to refer to visual inspection of the upper digestive tract: the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. As with a colonoscopy, a thin, flexible tube is used and is inserted orally while you are kept comfortably sedated. EGD is most frequently used to diagnose abdominal pain and bleeding and is performed routinely at Dimensions Surgery Center.
