Task Force Says PG County Should Relinquish Hospital Ownership
Prince George's County should get out of the hospital business.
That's the finding of a state task force, which recommends the county relinquish its ownership of Prince George's Hospital Center to the nonprofit corporation that operates it.
Doing so would allow Dimensions Healthcare to finance some much-needed improvements.
Dimensions runs the 284-bed hospital in Cheverly and several other area health care facilities. But it's lost more than $45 million over the last three years, and is shopping for a buyer.
The task force took no position on whether Dimensions should continue to own the facility, saying only that its mission of serving the county's poorest residents must continue.
The task force holds a public hearing Wednesday night at the Hospital Center.
